Canva Education Tutoring
I am now also offering one on one online Canva Education tutoring. Canva education is a digital tool which empowers students to design and communicate visually. It’s another way to boost creativity. During my nine week block children will get to know the creative tools offered. I give direction via prompts and provide opportunities to share and explore.

Artist Dates - For Big Kids
It all begins with an idea. Your 5 year old self knew how to create. That person is still there you just don’t know where to begin. Let me help you find a way forward through a series of creative prompts. Maybe you want to find a creative hobby or something more. Whatever it is, 6 weeks of Artist Dates will help you find creative inspiration.
Albert Einstein
“It is, in fact, nothing short of a miracle that the modern methods of instruction have not yet entirely strangled the holy curiosity of inquiry; for this delicate little plant, aside from stimulation, stands mainly in need of freedom. Without this it goes to wrack and ruin without fail.”

How 1:1 Mentoring Works
Each mentoring session is tailored to your child’s ability level and interest. The first session will be via Google meet and be dedicated to getting to know each other. I will use a variety of creative prompts and design the follow up lessons accordingly.
We will meet once a week and explore creative ideas. This could be via the digital technology tool Canva Education or through a range of creative mediums such as painting, drawing and collage.
It is possible for me to provide the creative materials for hands on creativity through a CReative kit. However, this would be at an extra cost.
Sessions are 45 - 60 minutes and take place via Google Meet or Teams.
I have taught in Primary Schools for thirty years. There is very little time for exploring individual creativity. Visual Arts and creativity are not prioritised in the current education system. In fact in many cases the day to day running of the curriculum is as dry as an old dusty boot!
As a creative child myself I remember feeling resentful and frustrated there was very little time for me to explore my creativity.
Through my one to one online creative mentoring I design and provide unique opportunities for your child to explore their own creative voice. This in turn will build their artistic skill, knowledge and self confidence.

A bit more about me!!
I have been a school teacher for thirty years and enjoy working with children. I believe in the Reggio Emilia philosophy which is a child-centred, constructivist approach to childhood education. Children are capable of constructing their own knowledge. Each child is rich in potential. They are curious and resourceful. Children have many ways of thinking, expressing themselves, and learning. I am happiest when I am in a teaching role where I can guide and nurture children to express themselves authentically and creatively. An inquiry based approach to learning is much preferred.
I have taught in both public and private schools in Western Australia, Canberra, New South Wales and Victoria. During my years at St Francis Xavier Primary School in Geraldton I was responsible for an Extension Program. We entered Tournament of Minds, an International educational program requiring students to solve demanding, open-ended challenges as a collaborative team. We were successful in making it to State and National Finals with my Social Science team winning an Australian Final.
It has become my mission to create and provide opportunities for children and adults to explore their own creativity. I believe it is important we explore our feelings, thoughts and imaginings and learn to communicate our ideas through the infinite possibilities found through creative expression. It is through our creativity we can express who we really are.
I am currently employed by the NSW Education System and the Victorian Institute of Teaching which requires a Working with Children Check. I also have a good understanding of the Visual Arts Curriculum.

We will most likely begin with drawing, using pencils and markers. We move onto collage using a variety of mixed media. Then we move onto paint. I will provide a list of materials that are required one week before the lesson. I try to keep it simple so that children can work independently. There is the option for me to provide the materials at an extra cost.

I have a good understanding of Art Learning concepts and a child’s developmental stages. I develop lessons based on their individual abilities and unique interests. Technology skills would be required in order to be able to use the internet. Ages 5 to 12 is ideal. Although I’m happy to work in with any age. Art is for everyone!

This largely depends on your child’s capabilities. I can work in with most children particularly if they happily work independently and have good technology skills. They will need a device such as a chromebook, laptop or computer.

For a limited time only I’m offering a $30 trial class. Going forward the cost of a one on one session will be $35 a lesson. Altogether it would be $300 for nine week block.
I’m happy to offer a discount on siblings or small groups of children. Particularly in regards to homeschooling.
“ Fiona is incredible! She ran a workshop for me and my friends and we all had such a blast. Even those of us who thought we had no artistic ability came up with amazing pieces we were all proud of..”
Khrista Newcomer
“Doing art or even just letting go and playing can seem scary from an outsider perspective but Fiona made it such fun.”
Liz Darvill
“Awesome experience! I'm an art novice. Really enjoyed Fi's supportive teaching approach allowing us to try different techniques. Super proud of my finished art piece!!
